Canker sores and cold sores are completely unrelated. Unfortunately, both of these conditions can be painful, however, knowing the differences between the two can help you keep these cosmetic nightmares in check.
Canker Sores
There are delicate tissues inside your mouth and this is where a canker sore will form. The sore has a light-colored base and its exterior border will be red.
To treat a canker sore, takes a great deal of patience. Try maintaining a healthy diet, as well as good oral hygiene, which will alleviate the condition. You can also use certain special rinses and anesthetics.
Cold Sores
On the other hand, when it comes to a cold sore or fever blister, that occurs on the outside of the mouth. Characteristically, it usually appears on or near the nose or lips. Cold sores are contagious and are caused by the herpes simplex virus. This visible sore is painful and filled with fluid.
Cold sores are treated effectively with a few over-the-counter topical creams. There are times your doctor will prescribe an antiviral medication.
